Judgement Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Infiniti G20, 2001 Nissan Sentra, and 2001 Infiniti G20. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Flash codes are also referred to by manufacturer as "Judgement Flickers".
  1. Ensure selector lever is in "P" position. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait 5 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. O/D OFF indicator light should illuminate for about 2 seconds. If O/D OFF indicator light does not illuminate, go to O/D OFF INDICATOR LIGHT  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then to ACC position. Move selector lever from "P" to "D" position. Turn ignition switch to ON position, engine off. Depress and hold overdrive switch in OFF position (O/D OFF indicator light on). Turn ignition switch to OFF position, then return ignition switch to ON position and release overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light off). Wait 2 seconds, then go to next step.
  3. Move selector lever to "2" position. Depress and release overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light on). Depress and hold overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light off) until directed to release. Go to next step.
  4. Move selector lever to "1" position, then release overdrive switch. Depress and release overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light on). Depress and release overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light off). Depress and hold overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light on) until directed to release. Go to next step.
  5. Depress accelerator pedal fully and release. Release overdrive switch (O/D OFF indicator light should flash on and off). Record O/D OFF indicator light flashes. Where LONG light flash appears in flash sequence (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) indicates code. See TCM FLASH CODE DEFINITIONS  table. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 .

TCM FLASH CODE DEFINITIONS (1)

Flash Code (2) DTC Description
All Flashes Same No Codes In System
No Flashes PNP Switch, TP Sensor Or OD Switch Circuit
All Long Flashes Battery Power Is Low, Battery Has Been Disconnected For Prolonged Period
1st Revolution Sensor
2nd Vehicle Speed Sensor/MTR (At Speedometer)
3rd Throttle Position Sensor
4th Shift Solenoid Valve "A"
5th Shift Solenoid Valve "B"
6th Overrun Clutch Solenoid Valve
7th Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve
8th Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor/TCM Power Source Circuit
9th Engine Speed Signal Circuit
10th Line Pressure Solenoid Valve
(1) Indicated by long flash (Judgement Flicker) of O/D OFF indicator light during TCM Self-Diagnostic Procedure.
