Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra, 2002 Infiniti G20, 2001 Nissan Sentra, and 2001 Infiniti G20. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Start engine. Check for TFT sensor circuit voltage at TCM harness connector. Voltage should be between 1.5 volts at 68°F (20°C) and 0.5 volts at 176°F (80°C). See PIN VOLTAGE TESTS . If voltage is okay, see DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE . If TFT sensor voltage is not within specification, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCM harness and check for continuity between TFT sensor ground circuit and ground. Check harness for short to ground or short to power. If circuit is okay, see DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE . If open or short is found in TFT sensor ground circuit, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect transaxle wire harness. Measure resistance of TFT sensor when cold. Resistance of TFT sensor at 60°F (20°C) should be about 2.5 k/ohms. If resistance values are not within specifications, remove oil pan and check harness for open or short circuit. Check TFT sensor. See TFT SENSOR  under COMPONENT TESTS. Repair as necessary. After repairs, see DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE .
