Description & Operation: Introduction
Transaxle consists of 4 main units: automatic transaxle, torque converter, differential assembly with a viscous coupling (RE4F03W) or without a viscous coupling (RE4F03B) and Transaxle Control Module (TCM). The TCM electrically controls shifting functions. Internal transaxle components include forward clutch, forward one-way clutch, high clutch, low and reverse brake, overrun clutch, reverse clutch, brake band, band servo, accumulators and control valve (valve body) assembly.
The RE4F03B/W automatic transaxle is electronically controlled. Transaxle shifting and torque converter lock-up is controlled by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) for optimal performance. The TCM receives information from various input devices and uses this information to control shift and lock-up solenoid valves (output devices).
The following electronic signals, sensors, switches and solenoids are used to control transaxle shifting.
- Engine Revolution Signal (Tach Signal)
- Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor
- Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch
- Line Pressure Solenoid
- Lock-Up Solenoid
- Overdrive Switch
- Overrun Clutch Solenoid
- Mainshaft Revolution Sensor
- Shift Solenoids "A" & "B"
- Speed Sensor
- Throttle Position (TP) Sensor With Integral Switch
- Shift Lock System
