Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP-CPVCV harness connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVAP-CPVCV harness connector terminal No. 1 (Green/White wire). If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short in Green/White wire between EVAP-CPVCV and fuse block, then retest system. See 2.5L under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS in ELECTRICAL.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure. Check continuity between EVAP-CPVCV harness connector terminal No. 2 (Purple/White wire) and ECM harness connector terminal No. 13. See Figure. Continuity should exist. Also, check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. Repair circuit as necessary and perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect vacuum hoses from EVAP-CPVCV. See Figure. Apply air pressure to port "A" at EVAP-CPVCV. See Figure. Air should not flow from port "B". Using fused jumper wires, apply battery voltage between EVAP-CPVCV terminals (component side). Air should now flow from port "B". If EVAP-CPVCV operates as specified, go to next step. If EVAP-CPVCV does not operate as specified, replace EVAP-CPVCV and perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST  to verify repair.
  4. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLESHOOTING - NO CODES article.
