Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit wiring diagram, see Figure
. For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check Power Supply
Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector terminal No. 1. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to step 3 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Check the following:- Harness connectors E10 and F48.
- Fuse block connector E103
- Fuse No. 20 (10-amp).
- Harness for open or short between EVAP-CPVCSV and fuse.
Repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
- Check Output Signal Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity between EVAP-CPVCSV harness connector terminal No. 2 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 14. See Figure . Also, check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CSPS Hose
Turn ignition off. Check for disconnection or improper connection of hose connected to EVAP-CSPS. See Figure . If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CSPS Connector
Disconnect EVAP-CSPS harness connector. Check connectors for water. If water exists, replace EVAP-CSPS. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If water does not exist, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CSPS Function
Check EVAP-CSPS function by performing DTC CONFIRMATION TEST under DTC P0452 OR DTC P0453: EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR. If 1st trip DTC is detected, replace EVAP-CSPS. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If 1st trip DTC is not detected, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CPVCSV
If not using CONSULT-II, go to next step. If using CONSULT-II, start engine. Perform PURG VOL CONT/V in ACTIVE TEST mode with CONSULT-II. Engine speed should vary according to valve opening. If operation is as specified, go to step 9 . If operation is not as specified, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CPVCSV
Turn ignition off. Remove EVAP-CPVCSV. See Figure . Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to EVAP-CPVCSV terminals. See Figure . Air should flow between ports "A" and "B". Remove jumper wires. Air should not flow. If operation is as specified, go to next step. If operation is not as specified, replace EVAP-CPVCSV. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. - Check EVAP-CVCV Hose
Disconnect hose connected to EVAP-CVCV. Check hose for clogging. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check EVAP-CVCV
Check EVAP-CVCV as shown in illustration. See Figure . If EVAP-CVCV is okay, go to next step. If EVAP-CVCV is not okay, replace EVAP-CVCV. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. - Check If EVAP Canister Is Saturated With Water
Remove EVAP canister with EVAP-CVCV attached. Attempt to drain water from EVAP canister. If water does not drain from EVAP canister, go to step 15 . If water drains from EVAP canister, go to next step. - Check EVAP Canister
Weigh EVAP canister with EVAP-CVCV attached. If weight is 4.0 lbs. (1.8 kg) or more, go to next step. If weight is less than 4.0 lbs. (1.8 kg), go to step 14 . - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Inspect EVAP canister for damage. Also, check hose between water separator and EVAP canister for blockage or poor connection. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check Water Separator
Check water separator as shown in illustration. See Figure . If water separator is okay, go to next step. If water separator is not okay, replace water separator. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair. - Check For Intermittent
Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC CONFIRMATION TEST to verify repair.
