DTC Confirmation Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If DTC confirmation test has been previously performed, always turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds before performing next DTC confirmation test.
NOTE: Always perform test at a temperature above 14°F (-10°C).
NOTE: COOLAN TEMP/S must indicate 14-122°F (-10-50°C) and EGR TEMP SEN must indicate less than 4.8 volts in DATA MONITOR mode with CONSULT-II before starting DTC WORK SUPPORT test. If values are not as specified, park vehicle in a cool place and allow engine temperature to stabilize. Do not attempt to reduce engine coolant temperature with a fan or means other than ambient air. Doing so may produce an inaccurate diagnostic result.

With CONSULT-II

  1. Turn ignition off and wait at least 5 seconds. Turn ignition on. Select EGR SYSTEM in DTC WORK SUPPORT mode with CONSULT-II.
  2. Press START. Start engine and let it idle until TESTING changes to COMPLETED (it will take 80 seconds or more).
NOTE: If TESTING is not displayed after 5 minutes, turn ignition off and allow engine coolant temperature to cool to 14-122°F (-10-50°C).
  3. Press SELF-DIAG RESULTS. IF OK is displayed, system is okay at this time. If NG is displayed, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  .

With Generic Scan Tool

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select MODE 1, and ensure engine coolant temperature is 14-122°F (-10-50°C).
  2. Measure voltage between ground and ECM terminal No. 72 (EGR temperature sensor signal) by backprobing. See Figure and Figure .
  3. Ensure voltage is less than 4.8 volts. Start engine and let it idle for at least 80 seconds.
  4. Turn ignition off. Repeat steps  1 - 3 .
  5. If DTC is detected, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If DTC is not detected, system is okay at this time.
