Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1
. For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check PCV Hose Connection
Confirm that PCV hose is connected correctly. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check Power Supply Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect IACV-AAC valve harness connector. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminals No. 2 and 5. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to step 4 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Check the following:- Check fuse No. 34 (15-amp) located in fuse and fusible link box on left side of engine compartment.
- Fuse and fusible link box connector E22.
- Harness connectors E9 and F47.
- Harness for open or short between fuse and ECM relay.
- ECM relay.
- Check for open or short between IACV-AAC valve and ECM relay.
Repair as necessary. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" .
- Check Output Signal Circuits
Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. See Figure . Check continuity between the following:- IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 1 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 6.
- IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 4 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 7.
- IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 3 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 15.
- IACV-AAC valve harness connector terminal No. 6 and ECM harness connector terminal No. 16.
Also, check harness for short to ground and short to power. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . If problem is not found, go to next step.
- Check Power Steering Air Control Valve Operation
Reconnect all harness connectors. Disconnect vacuum hose connected to power steering air control valve at air intake duct. See Fig 3 . Start engine and let it idle. Check for vacuum at disconnected hose. If vacuum slightly exists or does not exist, go to next step. If a strong vacuum exists, replace power steering air control valve. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . - Check Power Steering Air Control Valve Operation
Check for vacuum at disconnected hose when steering wheel is turned. If a strong vacuum exists, go to step 9 . If a strong vacuum does not exist, go to next step. - Check Vacuum Port
Turn ignition off. Disconnect power steering air control valve vacuum hose from vacuum port. See Fig 4 . Ensure air flows freely into vacuum port. Clean or repair vacuum port as necessary. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . If vacuum port is okay, go to next step. - Check Vacuum Hoses & Tubes
Disconnect vacuum hoses between power steering air control valve, vacuum port and air intake duct. Check hoses and tubes for cracks, clogging, improper connection and disconnection. If problem is found, repair as necessary. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . If problem is not found, go to next step. - Check IACV-AAC Valve
Check IACV-AAC valve as shown in illustration. See Fig 5 . If IACV-AAC valve is okay, go to next step. If IACV-AAC valve is not okay, replace IACV-AAC valve. Perform idle air volume learning. See IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING under PROGRAMMING. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . - Check Target Idle Speed
Turn ignition off. Reconnect all harness connectors and vacuum hoses. Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Also, warm transmission to normal operating temperature.- For A/T models with CONSULT-II, drive vehicle until FLUID TEMP SE in DATA MONITOR mode of A/T indicates less than .9 volt.
- For A/T models without CONSULT-II and M/T models, drive vehicle for 10 minutes.
On all models, stop vehicle with engine running. Check target idle speed. Target idle speed should be 600-700 RPM (M/T) or 750-850 RPM (A/T). If target idle speed is as specified, go to next step. If target idle does is not as specified, perform idle air volume learning. See IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING under PROGRAMMING.
- Check For Intermittent
Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Perform DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" .
