Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit wiring diagram, see Fig 1
. For connector identification and locations, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
.
- Check Power Supply Circuit
Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector. See Fig 2 . Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and EGR temperature sensor harness connector terminal No. 1. See Fig 1 . If voltage is about 5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not about 5 volts, repair open or short between EGR temperature sensor and ECM. Repeat DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . - Check Ground Circuit
Turn ignition off. Check continuity between engine ground and EGR temperature sensor harness connector terminal No. 2. Continuity should exist. Also, check harness for short to power. If problem is found, go to next step. If problem is not found, go to step 4 . - Detect Malfunctioning Part
Check the following:- Joint connector No. 3.
- Harness for open or short between EGR temperature sensor and ECM.
- Harness for open or short between EGR temperature sensor and Transmission Control Module (TCM).
Repair as necessary. Repeat DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" .
- Check EGR Temperature Sensor
Check EGR temperature sensor as shown in illustration. See Figure . If EGR temperature sensor is okay, go to next step. If EGR temperature sensor is not okay, replace EGR temperature sensor. Repeat DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . - Check EGR Volume Control Valve
Check EGR-VCV as shown in illustration. See Figure . If EGR-VCV is okay, go to next step. If EGR-VCV is not okay, replace EGR-VCV. Repeat DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" . - Check For Intermittent
Check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. Repeat DTC confirmation tests to verify repair. See DTC CONFIRMATION TEST "A" .
