On-Vehicle Deployment (Scrapped Vehicle)

Components are very hot after deployment. Personal injury may result. Wait at least 30 minutes before handling air bag module and 10 minutes before handling seat belt pretensioner.

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Park vehicle outdoors with at least 16 feet (4.9 m) of open space around vehicle. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Place a fully-charged 12-volt battery 16 feet (4.9 m) from vehicle.
- Disconnect all air bag module and seat belt pretensioner connectors. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Connect Deployment Tool (J38381) and appropriate adapter to selected air bag system component. For driver-side air bag module, passenger-side air bag module, curtain air bag modules and seat belt pretensioners, use Deployment Tool Adapter (J38381-80). For side air bag modules, use Deployment Adapter (J44230).
- Ensure no one is within 16 feet (4.9 m) of air bag module. Connect Red deployment tool clip to positive battery terminal and Black deployment tool clip to negative battery terminal. Ensure deployment tool power light glows Green. If deployment tool power light glows Red, reverse battery connections and recheck light. Press button on deployment tool. Air bag connector voltage light should illuminate and selected component will deploy.
