Rear Brake Shoes: Installation

- Always perform shoe clearance adjustment. Fit toggle lever to brake shoe (trailing side) with retainer clip. See Figure . Apply brake grease to the contact areas. See Fig 1 .
- Shorten adjuster by rotating it. Pay attention to direction of adjuster. The left wheel uses a left-hand thread and has a depression on the adjuster shaft. See Fig 2 . The right wheel uses a right hand thread and does not have a depression.
- Connect parking brake cable to toggle lever. Install all parts. Be careful not to damage wheel cylinder piston boots. Check all parts are installed properly. Pay attention to direction of adjuster assembly. Install brake drum.
- If installing NEW wheel cylinders or overhauling wheel cylinder, bleed air from brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM . Install brake drum and adjust shoe-to-drum clearance. Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS.
