DTC Confirmation Test (Overall Function Check)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall function of closed TP switch circuit. During this test, DTC may not be confirmed.
Malfunction is detected when battery voltage is sent to PCM from closed TP switch when throttle valve is opened. Possible causes are:
- Closed TP switch circuit shorted.
- Defective closed TP switch.
- Defective TP sensor.
Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Using a DVOM, backprobe PCM harness connector and measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 40 (Yellow/Purple wire) at PCM harness connector. See Figure . At idle, battery voltage should exist. At 2000 RPM, about zero volts should exist. If voltage is not as specified, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If voltage is as specified, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
