DTC Confirmation Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 107°F (40°C) before performing this confirmation test. Ensure battery voltage is greater than 10 volts at idle before performing this confirmation procedure.

Malfunction is detected when an absence of EGR flow is detected by the EGR temperature sensor under the conditions that call for EGR, a low flow malfunction is diagnosed. Possible causes are:

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Wait for at least 10 seconds. Connect a DVOM by backprobing between ground and terminal No. 92 (White wire) at PCM harness connector. See Figure and Figure .
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, monitor engine coolant temperature. Start engine and let idle. When engine coolant temperature reaches 158°F (70°C), test drive vehicle for at least one minute with engine speed at 1200-3600 RPM, vehicle speed greater than 6 MPH and DVOM reading at 0.86-2.0 volts. Stop vehicle. Turn ignition off for at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition on.
  3. Allow engine to cool until engine coolant temperature is less then 107°F (40°C). Using scan tool, monitor engine coolant temperature. Start engine and let idle. When engine coolant temperature reaches 107°F (40°C), test drive vehicle for at least one minute with engine speed at 1200-3600 RPM, vehicle speed greater than 6 MPH and DVOM reading at 0.86-2.0 volts.
  4. If first trip DTC is set, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
