DTC Confirmation Test

Malfunction is detected when PCM does not receive signal from ignition primary circuit during engine cranking or running. Possible causes are:
- Ignition primary circuit open or shorted.
- Defective power transistor (part of ignition coils).
- Faulty Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor or circuit.
- Faulty Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor or circuit.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Start engine, or crank engine for at least 5 seconds if engine does not start. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
