DTC Confirmation Test

NOTE:
Before performing confirmation test, ensure battery voltage is greater than 10.5 volts and ignition switch is on.
Malfunction is detected when PCM does not receive proper pulse signal from CKP sensor while engine is running at a certain speed. Possible causes are:
- CKP sensor circuit open or shorted.
- Defective CKP sensor.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Crank engine for at least 2 seconds and run engine at idle for at least 5 seconds. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
