DTC Confirmation Test

NOTE:
Before performing confirmation test, ensure battery voltage is greater than 11 volts when engine is idling.
Malfunction is detected when PCM receives an excessively low or high voltage from knock sensor. Possible causes are:
- Knock sensor circuit open or shorted.
- Defective knock sensor.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select DATA MONITOR. Start engine and let it idle for at least 5 seconds. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If first trip DTC is not set, problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
