Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Nissan Sentra. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Loosen and retighten engine ground bolts located on intake manifold. See Figure . Disconnect knock sensor and PCM harness connectors. See Figure and Fig 1 . Check continuity of White wire between terminal No. 1 at knock sensor harness connector and terminal No. 81 at PCM harness connector. See Figure . Continuity should exist. Also check circuit for short to ground and short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary and retest system. If problem does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 at knock sensor (component side). See Fig 2 . Resistance should be 500-620 k/ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace knock sensor and retest system.
  3. No problem is indicated at this time. Problem may be intermittent. See TESTING PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
