DTC Confirmation Test

Malfunction is detected when the comparison of the intake valve timing position values when the intake valve timing solenoid is on and off does not exceed the preset limit. Possible causes are:
- Intake valve timing control position sensor circuit open or shorted.
- Accumulation of debris on signal pick-up portion of camshaft.
- Defective intake valve timing control position sensor.
Start engine and warm to normal operating temperature. Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Start engine and wait 30 seconds. Let engine idle for at least another 50 seconds. Test drive vehicle in 5th gear (M/T) or 3rd gear with overdrive off (A/T) with engine speed greater than 2000 RPM. If first trip DTC is sets, perform DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE .
