Entering Self-Diagnostics

  1. Remove key from ignition switch. Observe SECURITY light on left side of instrument panel. If SECURITY light is flashing, go to next step. If SECURITY light is not flashing, see SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE  under SYMPTOM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Nissan CONSULT scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Insert Program Card (NATS UEN99A) into CONSULT scan tool. Turn ignition switch to ON position and go to next step.
  3. Press START button. Enter NATS V.5.0, then SELF DIAGNOSIS. If Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS) malfunction exists and DON'T ERASE BEFORE CHECKING ENG DIAG is not displayed, go to next step. If NATS malfunction exists and DON'T ERASE BEFORE CHECKING ENG DIAG is displayed, go to step  5 .
  4. Record all scan tool diagnostic messages. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. See DIAGNOSTIC MESSAGES  table and perform appropriate procedure under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. After repairs are complete, clear all NATS malfunctions by pressing ERASE on CONSULT scan tool. Start engine. If SECURITY light goes out, system is currently okay. If SECURITY light is still illuminated, turn ignition switch to ON position and repeat step  3 .
  5. Record all NATS malfunctions. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. See DIAGNOSTIC MESSAGES  table. After repairs are complete, DO NOT erase NATS malfunctions, go to next step.
  6. Using CONSULT scan tool, check for NATS system malfunction. If any NATS malfunction still exists, repair as necessary. If no NATS malfunctions exist, repair engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.

(1) Engine Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are also present. DO NOT erase NATS system malfunctions. Repair NATS system malfunctions as necessary. After NATS system malfunction has been repaired, repair engine DTCs as necessary. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
