Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Scan tool CAN bus diagnostics 

    Using scan tool MB991958, diagnose the CAN bus lines.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 2.
    2. NO:  Repair the CAN bus lines. (Refer to TROUBLESHOOTING .) After repairing the CAN bus line, go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Paddle shift switch check 

    Refer to PADDLE SHIFT ASSEMBLY .

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Replace the paddle shift assembly. (Refer to PADDLE SHIFT ASSEMBLY .)
  3. STEP 3. Measure the resistance at C-210 paddle shift switch connector. 

    Disconnect the connector, and measure the resistance between terminal No. 2 and ground at the wiring harness side.

    OK: Continuity exists. (2 Ω or less) 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 6.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 4.
  4. STEP 4. Paddle shift switch connector check: C-210 

    Check for the contact with terminals.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector.
  5. STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between C-210 paddle shift switch connector terminal No. 2 and the body ground. 

    Check the ground line for open circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness.
  6. STEP 6. Inspection of the shift lever assembly connector, intermediate connector, and paddle shift switch connector: C-49, C-127, C-210 

    Check for the contact with terminals.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector.
  7. STEP 7. Check the wiring harness between C-210 paddle shift switch connector terminal No. 1 and C-49 shift lever assembly connector terminal No. 11, and between C-210 paddle shift switch connector terminal No. 3 and C-49 shift lever assembly connector terminal No. 10. 

    Check the output line for short or open circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 8.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness.
  8. STEP 8. Retest the system 

    Q: Does a malfunction take place again? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 9.
    2. NO:  The inspection is complete.
  9. STEP 9. Trouble symptom recheck after replacing the shift lever assembly 
    1. Replace the shift lever assembly. (Refer to >> A << TRANSAXLE CONTROL CABLE (TRANSAXLE SIDE/SHIFT LEVER SIDE) INSTALLATION .)
    2. Verify that the condition described by the customer exists.

    Q: Does a malfunction take place again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the mechatronic assembly. (Refer to << A >> MECHATRONIC ASSEMBLY REMOVAL .)
    2. NO:  Intermittent malfunction. (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION .)
