Inspection Procedure 5: Malfunction of power supply circuit system: Diagnosis

  1. STEP 1. Check of the fuse No.13 and No.15. 

    Visually check that ETACS-ECU fuse Nos. 13 and 15 are not blown.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 4.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 2.
  2. STEP 2. Check the wiring harness between electronic control coupling solenoid connector and AWD-ECU connector terminal SOL+. 

    Check the power supply, ground line for short circuit (for short to the power supply).

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 3.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness wire and/or connector(s), and then replace fuse No. 13. Then go to  Step 19.
  3. STEP 3. Check the wiring harness between electronic control coupling solenoid connector and AWD-ECU connector terminal SOL-. 

    Check the power supply, ground line for short circuit (for short to the power supply).

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness wire and/or connector(s), and then replace fuse No. 13. Then go to  Step 19.
  4. STEP 4. Check of the electronic control coupling solenoid 

    Refer to CHECK OF ELECTRONIC CONTROL COUPLING  .

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness wire and/or connector(s), and then replace fuse No. 13. Then go to  Step 19.
  5. STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector and AWD-ECU connector terminal 4WDF 

    Check the power supply for short circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 6.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness wire and/or connector(s), and then replace fuse No. 13. Then go to  Step 19.
  6. STEP 6. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector and AWD-ECU connector terminal IG16 

    Check the power supply for short circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Replace the fuse Nos. 13 and 15. Then go to Step 7.
    2. NO:  Repair the wiring harness wire and/or connector(s), and then replace fuse No. 15. Then go to  Step 19.
  7. STEP 7. Voltage measurement at ETACS-ECU connector 

    Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal +B1 and body ground at the wiring harness side.

    OK: System voltage 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 9.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 8.
  8. STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector terminal IG16 and fusible link No.2 

    Check the power supply for short circuit.

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 19.
  9. STEP 9. Voltage measurement at the ETACS-ECU connector 
    1. Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal IG1 and body ground at the wiring harness side.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

      OK: System voltage 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 11.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 10.
  10. STEP 10. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector terminal IG1 and J/C(2). 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 19.
  11. STEP 11. Voltage measurement at the AWD-ECU connector 

    Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal 4WDF and body ground at the wiring harness side.

    OK: System voltage 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 13.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 12.
  12. STEP 12. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector terminal 4WDF and AWD-ECU connector terminal 4WDF. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 19.
  13. STEP 13. Voltage measurement at the AWD-ECU connector 
    1. Disconnect the connector, and measure the voltage between terminal IG16 and body ground at the wiring harness side.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

      OK: System voltage 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 15.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 14.
  14. STEP 14. Check the wiring harness between ETACS-ECU connector terminal IG16 and AWD-ECU connector terminal IG16. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 19.
  15. STEP 15. Measure the resistance at the AWD-ECU connector. 
    1. Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
    2. Resistance between AWD-ECU connector terminal GND1 and body ground.

      OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less) 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 17.
    2. NO:  Go to Step 16.
  16. STEP 16. Check the wiring harness between AWD-ECU connector terminal GND1 and body ground. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  Repair the defective connector or the wiring harness. Then go to  Step 18.
  17. STEP 17. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does the malfunction occur again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to ETACS ). Then go to  Step 19.
    2. NO:  The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS ).
  18. STEP 18. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does the malfunction occur again? 

    1. YES:  Replace the AWD-ECU (Refer to AWD-ECU  ). Then go to Step 19.
    2. NO:  The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTIONS ).
  19. STEP 19. Retest the system. 

    Q: Does the malfunction occur again? 

    1. YES:  Return to  Step 1.
    2. NO:  This diagnosis is complete.
