Inspection Procedure 1: The ignition switch (ACC) signal is not received: Diagnosis

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Required Special Tools: 

  1. STEP 1. Voltage measurement at ETACS-ECU connector (ACC terminal). 
    1. Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ACC" position.
    3. Check the voltage between the ETACS-ECU connector (ACC terminal) and ground.

      OK: The voltage should measure approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage). 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to  Step 5.
    2. NO < vehicles with one touch start system >:  Go to Step 2.
    3. NO < vehicles without one touch start system >:  Go to  Step 3.
  2. STEP 2. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), read the OSS diagnostic trouble code 
    CAUTION: To prevent damage to scan tool (M.U.T.-III), always turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting scan tool (M.U.T.-III).
    1. Connect scan tool (M.U.T.-III). Refer to "HOW TO CONNECT THE SCAN TOOL (M.U.T.-III) ."
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
    3. Check that the OSS-ECU store a DTC.

    Q: Is the DTC stored? 

    1. YES:  Diagnose the OSS-ECU. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART .
    2. NO:  Go to  Step 4.
  3. STEP 3. Ignition switch check 

    Check the ignition switch. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH CHECK .

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 4.
    2. NO:  Troubleshoot the ignition switch. Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 2: MALFUNCTION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM .
  4. STEP 4. Check of short to power supply, short to ground, and open circuit in ACC line between ignition switch (ACC) < Vehicles without KOS > or OSS-ECU (ACC) < Vehicles with one touch start system > and ETACS-ECU connector. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  Go to Step 5.
    2. NO:  Repair the connector(s) or wiring harness.
  5. STEP 5. Using scan tool (M.U.T.-III), check data list. 

    Check the input signals from the ignition switch (ACC).

    • Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position.
      Item No. Item name Normal condition
      Item 288 ACC switch ON

      OK: Normal condition is displayed. 

    Q: Is the check result normal? 

    1. YES:  The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to HOW TO COPE WITH INTERMITTENT MALFUNCTION ).
    2. NO:  Replace the ETACS-ECU.
