Diagnostic Procedure
- Using scan tool, command low-reverse solenoid valve, underdrive solenoid valve, second solenoid valve, overdrive solenoid valve and reduction solenoid valve (5-speed) on and off. A clicking sound should be heard from each solenoid valve when operated. Turn ignition off. Are the solenoid valves operating properly? If so, go to next step. If not, repair or replace the solenoid valves as necessary. See appropriate SERVICING article. Confirm symptom is eliminated.
- Adjust line pressure. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE ADJUSTMENTS under PERFORMANCE TESTS. Check the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 4 .
- Remove the transmission. Check each brake and clutch. Check the facing for seizure and piston seal ring for damage and interference with retainer. Repair or replace faulty parts. See appropriate OVERHAUL article. Check the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to step 6 .
- Remove the transmission. Replace the oil pump (oil pump can not be repaired). See appropriate OVERHAUL article. Check the symptom. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to next step.
- Disassemble and clean the valve body. Check the "O" ring installation, bolts for looseness and the valve body for damage. Repair or replace faulty parts. Is the repair possible and the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, replace the valve body assembly. Check the symptom. If symptom still exists, go to next step.
- Possible faulty PCM exists. Replace the PCM if necessary. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Is the symptom eliminated? If so, diagnosis is complete. If not, go to step 1 .
