Test C: Fuel Gauge Does Not Work

  1. Check speedometer. If speedometer is not operating normally, see SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK  . If speedometer is working normally, go to next step.
  2. On Montero, backprobe fuel gauge unit connector G-03. On Montero Sport, disconnect fuel gauge unit connector E-30 . Turn ignition on. On Montero, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 1 (Green/Yellow wire). On Montero Sport, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If 5 volts are not present, go to next step. If 5 volts are present, check fuel pump module connector and wiring harness. Repair or replace as necessary.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and fuel pump module connector terminal No. 2 (Black wire) on Montero or terminal No. 3 (Black wire) on Montero Sport. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is less than 2 ohms, check fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL TANK SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. If resistance is greater than 2 ohms, check fuel pump module connector and wiring harness. Repair connector or wiring as necessary.
