Rocker Shaft Assembly & Camshaft: Installation

  1. Lubricate camshaft journals and lobes. Install camshaft. Determine correct rocker arm cylinder identification and assemble rocker shaft assembly. See Fig 1.
    NOTE: DO NOT  tilt auto-lash adjuster more than necessary to prevent oil in adjuster from spilling out. If oil leaks out, adjuster must be bled.

  2. Install rocker shafts into front cap with shaft oil holes down and tabs in bearing cap located in grooves in rocker shafts. Install rocker shaft bolts and gradually tighten to specification.
  3. Turn camshaft until dowel pin is at 12 o'clock position. Install camshaft sprocket and timing belt. Ensure timing mark alignment and belt tension are correct. Reverse removal procedure to complete installation.
  4. Adjust valves to specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table. Apply sealant to top surface of cylinder block and above semi-circular packing at rear of head. Install valve cover.
