Removing and installing/replacing transmission oil cooler (8-speed, AISIN GA8F22AW) (Cooper Clubman JCW)

Special tools required: 

• 16 1 070

Use only the approved automatic transmission oil: ATF6 (BMW/MINI part number 83 22 2 355 599).

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

Failure to comply with this requirement will result in serious damage to the automatic transmission!

Preliminary work needed: 

• Refer to REMOVING THE FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Refer to REMOVING INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
• Drain off TRANSMISSION OIL .

REMOVAL: 

Unscrew the sealing cap (1) of the coolant expansion tank.

Release locks (1).

Disconnect coolant hoses from transmission oil cooler.

Collect the leakage coolant.

Unscrew the screws (1).

Remove transmission oil cooler.

Seal the openings on the transmission oil cooler with special tool 16 1 070.

Seal the openings on the transmission with special tool 16 1 070.

INSTALLATION: 

Remove the special tool 16 1 070 from the openings on the transmission.

Remove the special tool 16 1 070 from the openings on the transmission oil cooler.

Install transmission oil cooler.

Tighten down screws (1).

Tightening torque 24 11 4AZ .

Slide coolant hoses onto transmission oil cooler and engage locks (1).

Required follow-up work: 

• Top up COOLANT .
• Add TRANSMISSION FLUID .
• Install INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING .
• Install front UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
• Carry out vehicle test.
