51 31 011 Replace windshield
Special tools required:
The following notes form the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

Remove with SPIDER .
The following new parts are required.

Preliminary work needed:
Remove right WINDSHIELD PANEL COVER
- Remove COVER ON A-PILLAR on left/right
- Remove TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR at front
- Remove INTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR
Removal:
Depending on version:
Unplug plug connections (1 to 3).
Do not remount the rain-light solar and condensation sensor until after the windshield is disassembled.
Remove CAMERA .
Version with heated windshield:
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Secure cable with adhesive tape to windshield.
Slide string along line (1) through adhesive bead.
Cut out WINDSHIELD .
Remove the rain/light/solar and condensation sensor and immediately install on a new windshield.
INSTALLATION:
Lining spacer buffers (spacers):
Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers and maintain installation location exactly.
Bond spacer buffer on mark on sheet metal flange.
Overview of windshield bonding:

If necessary, install RUBBER FRAME (1), paying attention to center markings in so doing.
Apply bead joint in area (2).
Using SUCTION LIFTER (51 3 010) , perform the following steps carefully on the windshield (1):
- Position at top
- Align sides evenly
- Insert at bottom and press down
- Press upwards until rubber frame rests evenly on roof
- Adjust gap dimensions (see next operation)
- secure in terms of height in this position at top with two yellow plastic adhesive tapes (2)
Windshield gap dimensions:
To avoid wind noises, the windshield (1) must be lower than the roof outer skin (2).
Measure distance (A) on left and right using special tool 51 0 010 .
Rubber frame (3) must be even and in parallel to roof outer skin (2).
(A) = 3 ± 1 mm
Only with camera-based driver support systems:
Carry out camera calibration via diagnostic system.
