51 16 063 Removing and installing/replacing interior rearview mirror (as of 07/2011)

IMPORTANT: Work may only be carried out at a room/object temperature of 18... 28 °C.
If this can not be guaranteed (cold/hot countries), it is necessary to equalize the temperatures of the windshield, mirror base and inside mirror (e.g. vehicle left to stand indoors or in the shade for at least 30 minutes).

IMPORTANT: To avoid windshield breakage:
When removing mirror base, never turn or disengage towards front or rear.

Unclip end caps (1) in arrow direction using a suitable tool and remove.

Installation note:

Detents (1) and guides (2) on both end caps (3) must not be damaged.

For end caps (3) with lugs (4), the spacers must be bonded onto the lugs (4).

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
When removing mirror base, never turn or disengage towards front or rear.
Interior rearview mirror is held by clamp (3) and detent in area (A) on mirror base (2).

If necessary, disconnect plug connection on inside mirror (1).

Detach inside mirror (1) parallel to windshield from mirror socket (2) with jerky motions.

Installation note:

Retaining clips (3) must not be bent or damaged.

Interior rearview mirror (1) must engage correctly in mirror base (2) in area (A).

Version with compass:

Check compass function if replacing or after disconnecting inside mirror plug connection or battery.

If necessary, calibrate compass in interior rearview mirror.

Version with high-beam assistant without KAFAS (camera-based driver support systems):

Scaling or initialization is not necessary.

High-Beam Assistant is automatically aligned under the following conditions:

Driving on a highway/ordinary road at night for approx. 50 km and
Clearly visible road markings

Replacement:

Carry out VEHICLE PROGRAMMING/CODING .
