72 11 022 Removing and installing/replacing front left or right seat belt (complete)

Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.

A damaged head airbag must be replaced.

A damaged head airbag exhibits an impaired protective function and in extreme cases loses its protective function altogether.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Removal:

Release screw (1).

Remove end fitting (2).

Release screws (1) and remove guide loop.

Release screw (2).

Put the seat belt guide loop including the seat belt strap to one side.

Unlock and disconnect the connector (1).

Release screw (2).

Feed out automatic reel (3) from guide.

Remove seat belt.

Cut open cable strap (1).

Unlock latch mechanisms and feed out connector (2) from connector housing (3) in direction of arrow.

Detach cable (1) from seat mechanism.

Release clip (1) from seat mechanism.

Release screw (2).

Remove lower strap fitting (3).

Installation:

Mount lower strap (3) on seat mechanism.

NOTE: Lower strap is encoded against incorrect assembly (3).

Replace screw (2).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 5AZ .

Mount cable with clip (1) to seat mechanism.

Feed in cable (1) to seat mechanism.

Feed in connector (1) into connector housing (2).

NOTE: Ensure correct locking.

Secure cable to connector housing (2) with cable strap (3).

Mount automatic reel.

NOTE: Automatic reel (3) is encoded against incorrect installation.

Replace screw (2).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 1AZ .

Connect the connector (1).

Install the seat belt guide loop including the seat belt strap.

Replace screw (2).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 3AZ .

Mount guide loop.

Tighten down screws (1).

NOTE: Renew screws (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 4AZ .

Mount end fitting (2).

NOTE: End fitting (2) is encoded to prevent incorrect assembly.

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 2AZ .
