Replace Cover Bowl (Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2021 MINI Cooper, 2020 MINI Cooper, 2019 MINI Cooper, 2018 MINI Cooper, and 2017 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Preliminary work needed:

Remove right REAR WHEEL .
Remove rear right WHEEL ARCH COVER .
Remove FUEL FILLER FLAP .
Close the central locking system with open cap

Attention!

Deformation of the sheet metal flanges in the side panel and the wheel arch results in permanent vehicle leakage. Carry out removal/installation with great vehicle care.

Removal:

Following new body parts are required (see Electronic Parts Catalog):

Cover bowl

Lift out detents (1) and remove cover of gas cap (2).

Removing the FUEL FILLER NECK .

NOTE: The fuel filler neck is only removed until the cover pot is removed.
Once the cover pot has been removed, reinstall the fuel filler neck.

Press seal cup (1) through to the outside.

Pierce cover bowl at markings (1) with a small screwdriver.

Insert screwdriver to a depth of max. 5 mm and unlock cover bowl detent.

Hold cover pot gently under tension.

Unlock detents on left and right by inserting a screwdriver in the arrow direction.

Attention!

Do not damage sheet metal flange of side wall.

Screw cover pot (1) out of the side panel in the arrow direction and remove.

Unlock and disconnect plug connection (1) for actuator drive.

Release the pull (2) for emergency release of the fuel filler flap.

Remove cover pot.

Installation:

Remounting the SERVO DRIVE FOR FUEL FILLER FLAP .

Connect the plug connection (1) for the servo drive.

Attach the pull (2) for emergency release of the fuel filler flap.

Check central locking system before installation of cover bowl.

Attention!

Do not damage sheet metal flange of side wall.

Install cover pot (1) in the side panel in the arrow direction.

NOTE: Cover bowl must audibly snap into place 2 times.

NOTE: There must be no discernible gap between sealing lip and side wall in area (1).

Using installation aid (1), pull seal (2) over sheet metal flange of wheel arch (3).

Check that sealing lip (1) is mounted correctly.

NOTE: Detents (1) must not be damaged.

Install gas cap cover (2).

NOTE: Detents (1) must be felt to engage.
