Removing and installing/replacing front left or right safety belt (Cooper Convertible)

Failure to observe correct procedures can deploy the airbag and cause injuries.

Preliminary work needed:

Disconnect cable from BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
Remove rear TRIM PANEL .

Removal:

Remove screw (1).

Remove end lining (2) outwards.

Remove screw (1).

Take off the seat belt guide loop (2) with seat belt strap.

Unlock and disconnect the connector (1).

Remove screw (2).

Remove the seat belt retractor (3) from the guide.

Remove safety belt.

Installation:

Fit the seat belt retractor.

NOTE: Seat belt retractor unit (3) is coded against incorrect installation.

Replace screw (2).

Tighten screw (2).

Tightening torque 72 11 1AZ .

Connect the connector (1).

Take off the seat belt guide loop (2) with seat belt strap.

replace screw (1).

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 3AZ .

Mount end lining (2).

NOTE: End lining (2) is encoded to prevent incorrect assembly.

replace screw (1).

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 72 11 2AZ .

Required follow-up work:

Install REAR TRIM PANEL .
Connect BATTERY GROUND LEAD.
