52 13 403 Replacing seat cover for front passenger seat (normal/manual)

Special tools required: 

WARNING: Injury hazard!
The seat frame has very sharp edges that can cause injuries from cuts.
Exercise extreme caution and wear hand protection as required when carrying out any repairs in the area of the seat frame.
IMPORTANT: Risk of damage on sharp-edged seat mechanism.
Guide all cables carefully through seat and backrest mechanism.
Make sure cable is routed without kinks and tension.
Make sure plug connections are correctly locked.
Make sure connectors are correctly seated in detents.

Only US version/Canadian version front passenger seat (with seat occupancy mat): 

Faulty seat cover: 

The seat cover, facing and seat occupancy mat must be completely replaced.

The new seat cover is supplied with facing, seat occupancy mat and if applicable seat heating.

Faulty seat occupancy mat or facing: 

Both parts can only be replaced together.

After installation, the seat occupancy mat must be enabled with the BMW programming system.

Enabling the seat occupancy detection (seat occupancy mat): 

IMPORTANT:
  • Connect BMW programming system
  • Encode airbag control unit
  • Delete fault memory if necessary
IMPORTANT:
  • Microencapsulated screws must be coated with Loctite if they are to be reused
  • Screw connection must be completed within 20 min. (start of harden)
  • Microencapsulated screws must not  be retightened.
  • Thread of nut must be cleaned beforehand in event of repeated use

Preliminary work needed: 

Removal: 

Use of the universal seat mount is recommended for carrying out expert repairs.

Shift the backrest into an upright position.

Release left and right screws (4).

Completely remove the backrest (5) to the top.

If necessary, feed out cable and set aside backrest.

Unhook welt (1).

Version with seat heating only: 

Unlock and disconnect connector (2).

Feed out cable.

IMPORTANT: Feed the wiring harness carefully through the seat and backrest mechanism as the edges of the frame can be sharp.

Loosen clips (1) on the left and right side.

Detach all-round piping (1) and remove the seat cover (2) with the facing.

If necessary, feed out cable.

Release all clamps.

Remove seat cover from upholstery.

IMPORTANT: Remove all remnants of clamps from seat cover and upholstery.

Installation: 

Position seat cover.

Bend new clamps (2) with special tool 52 0 050.

  1. Upholstery
  2. Clamp
  3. Trim wire in upholstery
  4. Trim wire in cover
  5. Seat cover

Parts:  Replace clamps.

If necessary, feed in cable.

Place the seat cover (2) with the facing and attach all-round piping (1).

Install clips (1) on the left and right side.

Attach welt (1).

Version with seat heating only: 

Connect connector (2).

IMPORTANT: Feed the wiring harness carefully through the seat and backrest mechanism as the edges of the frame can be sharp.

Install backrest (5).

If necessary, feed in cable.

Tighten screws (4) on left and right.

Tightening torque 52 10 2AZ .
