Replacing the mechanism for glass slide/tilt sunroof panel (Cooper)

Special tools required: 

• 2 298 505
• 64 1 020

Preliminary work needed: 

• Remove PANORAMA GLASS ROOF COMPLETELY .
• Remove front GLASS SLIDE/TILT SUNROOF PANEL .

Removal and installation of the parts (1 to 4) is described below.

Drive cable (5) is described in the following service information: REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING DRIVE CABLE FOR GLASS SLIDE/TILT SUNROOF PANEL .

Removal: 

Shift mechanism manually until guide (1) can be accessed.

Unclip guide (1) with special tool 2 298 505 and 64 1 020 in the direction of the arrow.

Feed out guide (1) in the direction of the arrow.

Shift mechanism (1) manually until slider (2) becomes visible via cutout.

Detach mechanism (1) upwards from rail (3) in area (A).

Feed out guide (1) from rail (2).

Slide mechanism (1) to the rear until slider (2) is fed out from rail (3).

Tilt mechanism (1) upwards and feed out of rail (2) in area (A).

Fold gate (1) outwards until slider (2) is fed out of rail (3).

Feed out gate (1) upwards.

Installation:

Insert gate (1) from above.

When feeding in gate (1), sliders (2) must feed in correctly into rail (3).

Attach new slider (1) to new mechanism (2).

Feed in mechanism (1) into rail (2) in area (A).

Slide mechanism (1) forwards and at the same time feed in slider (2) into rail (3).

Insert mechanism (1) into gate (2) in area (A).

Shift mechanism (1) manually until slider (3) feeds in into rail (4).

If necessary, shift mechanism manually until the opening for the guide (1) can be accessed.

Insert guide (1).

1. firstly feed in into rail (2) at the rear.
2. then clip in into rail (2).

Installation note: 

Read and comply with NOTES  on greasing.

Check smooth and noise-free running of kinematics.

Run a functional check.

Required follow-up work: 

• Install COMPLETE PANORAMA GLASS ROOF .
• Install the front GLASS SLIDE/TILT SUNROOF PANEL .
