Replacing armrest on left or right front door trim panel (Cooper Convertible)

Special tools required :

Preliminary work needed:

Remove front door TRIM PANEL .

NOTE: The armrest is only welded to the door TRIM PANEL when initially installed. The armrest is screwed on when installed for the second time. if necessary, release screws instead of welding spots.

Release detents and unclip speaker trim.

Loosen and remove the trim (1) from the clamps (2) using special tool 2 298 505.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Exclusively drill up to the base of the door trim panel (2) to prevent damage to the contact surface.

Drill out all welding spots in the highlighted area (1) of the door trim panel (2) using a weld spot drill bit.

Remove welding residue on the door trim panel (2) using a scalpel (for heavy duty use).

Saw off all welding pins (1) on the armrest (2) to the dimension (A).

A = 3.0 mm

Insert the armrest into the door trim panel (1).

Sawn off welding pins must not protrude over the door trim panel (1). Grind off welding pins, if necessary.

Secure the armrest using the screws (2).
