Removing and installing/sealing cylinder head cover (B48 and B46 engine) (Cooper S and John Cooper Works)

Preliminary work needed:

Remove CLEAN AIR PIPE .
Remove ALL INJECTORS .
REMOVE FEED LINE .
Remove HIGH PRESSURE PUMP .
Remove BOTH ACTUATORS .
Release WIRING HARNESS FOR INJECTORS in area of cylinder head cover.
Release WIRING HARNESS FOR SENSOR SYSTEM in area of cylinder head cover.

Removal:

Slacken nut (1).

Remove holder (2).

Detach coolant lines (1) from holder.

IMPORTANT: Have a cleaning cloth ready. A small quantity of motor oil will leakage after the screw connection has been released.
Make sure no motor oil runs onto belt drive.

Remove screw (1).

Detach oil feed line (2) from cylinder head.

Release screws in the sequence 15 - 1 .

Remove cylinder head cover.

Replacement:

Remount PULSE SENSOR ON INTAKE CAMSHAFT .
Remount PULSE SENSOR ON EXHAUST CAMSHAFT .

Installation:

Parts : Replace profile seal (1).

NOTE: The cylinder head cover (1) must not tap the high pressure pump bracket (2) in the marked area.

Position cylinder head cover.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to cylinder head cover!

Make sure that the cylinder head cover does not tap the high pressure pump bracket!

Join all cylinder head cover screws for 1/2 revolution in the sequence 1 - 15 .

Tighten cylinder head cover screws in the sequence 1 - 15 .

Tightening torque: 11 12 3AZ .

Parts : Replace O-ring (1).

Install oil feed line (2).

Tighten screw (1).

Tightening torque 11 42 4AZ .

Clip in coolant line (1) into the holder.

Position holder (2) on cylinder head.

Tighten nut (2).

Required follow-up work:

Install ALL INJECTORS .
Install HIGH PRESSURE PUMP .
Install FEED LINE .
Install BOTH ACTUATORS .
Route and connect WIRING HARNESS FOR INJECTORS .
Route and connect WIRING HARNESS FOR SENSOR SYSTEM .
Install CLEAN AIR PIPE .
