REP-TAT-P-5434-01 Removing the convertible top fabric
Preliminary work
- Remove the TRIM PANEL for the rear case
- Remove BOTH SEALS on the roof frame at the rear
- Remove AUXILIARY BRAKE LIGHT
- Remove both TRIM STRIPS from the convertible top
- Remove both OUTER WINDOW CHANNEL STRIPS for the rear side window glass

- Cover working area.
- Draw off shavings during drilling using a vacuum cleaner.

The operations shown only for one side must be carried out on both sides.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
For the following task, the convertible top must be shifted electrically several times. In order to ensure the accessibility and the function, the trunk lid must be opened and the tailgate lock must be manually locked.

Only shift the convertible top in short steps and ensure that no parts are trapped.
- Lock the left tailgate lock (1) manually with the striker.
- Lift the convertible top brace on the closed convertible top and detach the retaining clip (1).
- Detach the convertible top fabric from the bolt.
- Feed plug connection (1) out of the cover.
- Carefully unlock plug connection (1) and disconnect.
Be sure that the connector housing will not be damaged. A damaged connector housing must be replaced.
- Loosen the headlining (2) at the Velcro strips (3).
- Open the folding sunroof by a few cm in the arrow direction to relax the tension of the convertible top fabric.
- Detach the trim (1) towards the rear. In doing so, be aware of the 3 clamps below the trim (1).
- Carefully release the convertible top fabric (1) from the front strut (2) in the arrow direction.
- Remove remnants of the double-sided adhesive tape.
- Loosen adhesive tape (1).
- Detach tension cable (2).
- Shift the convertible top fabric (2) slightly forward.
- Unclip the detents (1) at the front in the highlighted area.
- Remove convertible top fabric (2) from the front strut in the direction of the arrow and fold to the rear.
- The following video sequence is a supplement to this operation.
- Detach the bow (1) on both sides.
- Pull the bow (1) out of the convertible top.
- Loosen clamps (1).
- Loosen the cable bracket (2).
- Remove convertible top fabric (3) over the entire width from the frame.
- Remove remnants of the double-sided adhesive tape.
- Loosen nut (1).
- Pull the holder (1) slightly to the rear. This detaches the guide (2) from the convertible top frame (3).
- Loosen screw (1).
- Slide the convertible top fabric (1) slightly downwards. This detaches the guide (2) from the mount (3).
- Lift out the convertible top fabric (1) from the convertible top frame from the side.
- Detach the tension cable (1) from the linkage and the spring (2) on the left and the right.
- Secure tension cable (1) using adhesive tape (2) to the convertible top frame.
- Drill the rivet (3) out and catch shavings and rivet residue.
No rivet residue may remain in the vehicle.
- If necessary, secure the rivet heads with adhesive tape.
- Drill the rivet (1) out at the luggage strap (2) and catch shavings and rivet residue.
No rivet residue may remain in the vehicle.
- If necessary, secure the rivet heads with adhesive tape.
- Remove butyl (1) completely.
- Cover the side panel in the working area to protect the body from damage.
- Pull convertible top fabric (1) out of the convertible top brace with the help of a second person.
A support person must hold the rear window and protect it from damage.
