11 14 005 Replacing front crankshaft radial seal (N16)

Special tools required: 

• 11 9 601
• 11 9 602
• 11 9 603

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

• Remove VIBRATION DAMPER .
• Disconnect A/C LINES from compressor.

If the central bolt is released, the sprockets of the timing chain and the oil pump will no longer be non-positively connected to the crankshaft. The camshafts will be able to rotate relative to the crankshaft (risk of damage)  .

Drive PTFE ring inwards with a punch (1) until PTFE ring tilts outwards at bottom.

Attach special tool 11 9 601 to crankshaft using bolts (1) tightened to 15 Nm.

Installation note: 

Apply a thin coating of oil to special tool 11 9 601 .

Position PTFE ring (2) and supporting disc (1) on special tool 11 9 601 .

Push PTFE ring (2) over support disc (1) in direction of arrow up to crankcase.

Remove supporting disc from special tool 11 9 601 .

Pull in PTFE ring using special tool 11 9 602 in conjunction with special tool 11 9 603 until flush.

Assemble engine.
