12 31 020 Removing and installing or replacing alternator (N16, N18)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Switch off ignition.
Disconnect BATTERY EARTH LEAD .
Remove AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR .

N18 only:

Release screw.

Remove holder (1) and place to one side.

Release connector and remove.

Release nut (1) and remove positive battery cable.

Tightening torque 12 31 2AZ .

Loosen screws (2) and remove the belt tensioner (3).

Tightening torque: 20 Nm.

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .

Remove alternator (2) downwards.

Reassemble the vehicle.
