54 34 275 Removing and installing/replacing the middle soft top locking

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

WARNING: For all repair work, secure soft top with a suitable support tool against collapsing.
Ensure soft top is supported in the middle.
IMPORTANT: Never lift off ball socket with engaged clamp.
Before installation, grease ball socket if necessary.

Installation note: 

Pack grease into two opposite positions in socket.

The grease spreads after installation on the ball pin all round in the ball socket.

Dismantling/installing ball sockets: 

  1. Push on clamp in direction of groove with screwdriver
  2. Lift off ball socket from ball pin
  3. Slide clamp back
  4. Fit ball socket on ball stud and snap into place with force

Remove left and right ball socket (1) from soft top latch (2).

Installation note: 

Make sure retaining spring is correctly seated in the ball socket (1).

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 54 34 12AZ .

Remove the middle soft top locking (2) toward the bottom.

Run a function check.
