41 11 751 Replacing side member and luggage compartment floor on left (left side wall and tail panel removed)

STRIP DOWN  vehicle

Place vehicle on straightening bench.

Observe procedure of REPAIR STAGE 3 .

Following new body parts are required:

Following CONSUMABLES  are required:

Material Quantity
Adhesive K5a 2
Blind rivets N3 34
EMC screws 6
Cleaning agent R1 1
Sealant D1  

Removing side members and luggage compartment floor 

View from below.

Open welded connections in area (1).

Open welded connections in area (1).

Open spot-welded adhesive joints in area (2) and remove luggage compartment floor (3).

Mark severance cut in accordance with Dimension a and cut.

Dimension a = approx. 140 mm from the rear screw point of the support bearing.

Open welded connections in area (1).

Mark severance cut in accordance with Dimension a and cut.

Dimension a = approx. 200 mm from luggage compartment floor cross member.

Open spot-welded adhesive joints in areas (1) and remove side member.

New part preparation 

Mark new parts rear axle support and rear axle support cover on vehicle in accordance with severance cuts and cut.

For all severance cuts on side members, prepare REINFORCEMENT PLATES .

Adjust new parts with alignment bracket or universal mount and in conjunction with side wall and tail panel and secure.

In areas (1) to (3), set 4.2 mm dia. bore holes for blind rivets N3:

In areas (1) and (2), set bore holes Ø 4.2 mm for blind rivets N3.

In areas (1) to (3), set 4.2 mm dia. bore holes for blind rivets N3:

Remove new parts and deburr bore holes.

IMPORTANT: Do not grind new parts and body in area of bonding surfaces.

Installing rear axle support and cover for rear axle support: 

Install new parts and reinforcement plates with alignment bracket or universal mount and weld:

NOTE: In area (1), replace the series spot-welded adhesive joints with double the number of welding spots.

Adjust new part (1) and weld in area (2).

Installing side members, luggage compartment floor and wheel arch end plate: 

Clean all  bonding surfaces with cleaning agent R1.

Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces.

Install new part and rivet with blind rivets.

When installing the new parts, make sure that all bonding surfaces have sufficient adhesive.

When the adhesive has hardened, fit 2 EMC screws each in areas (1) and (2).

Fit 2 EMC screws in area (1).
