51 31 000 Removing and installing/renewing windscreen

IMPORTANT: The following forms the basis for these repair instructions and must be adhered to at all times:

General instructions on window bonding:

Also refer to GENERAL PROCEDURE for dismantling/installation of affixed window glass

NOTE:

Replacement: Remove using WIRE PULL HANDLES .

If reusing: Remove using ROLL OUT 2000 .

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove COVER FOR COWL PANEL on left
Remove COVER ON A-PILLAR on left/right
Remove WINDSCREEN RUBBER SURROUND
Remove RETAINING STRIP FOR COWL PANEL COVER
Remove TRIM PANELS FOR ROOF PILLAR at front
If necessary, remove RAIN/LIGHT SENSOR

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Secure cable with adhesive tape to windscreen.

IMPORTANT: Pay attention to cable when cutting in this area.

Installation note:

If necessary, replace defective EXPANDING FOAM TAPE .

Version with visible vehicle identification number:

Stick 60 mm long expanding foam tape 5 mm above viewing window for VIN onto ceramic layer of windscreen.

Fitting 3 spacer buffers (spacers):

IMPORTANT: To avoid windscreen breakage and wind noises:

Completely remove remnants of removed spacer buffers (1) and maintain installation position exactly.

Stick semicircular spacer buffer (1) onto sheet metal flange.

Overview of windscreen bonding:

If necessary, fit new RETAINING STRIP (5) and RUBBER FRAME (6), paying attention to center marks in the process.

Insert positioner (7) for retaining strip (5) must be removed after it has been fitted on the windscreen but before the windscreen itself is installed.

Perform the following steps carefully on the windscreen (1) using SUCTION LIFTER (51 3 010) :

Position at top
Align sides evenly
Insert at bottom and press down
press upwards until sealing rests evenly on roof
secure in terms of height in this position at top with two yellow plastic adhesive tapes (2)
