51 24 004 Adjusting tailgate lock
Prerequisite:
Rear lid must be correctly adjusted to fit; if necessary, ADJUST REAR LID .
Necessary preliminary work:
- Fully screw in all stop pads
- Remove COVER ON TAIL PANEL
Slacken screws (1) until tailgate lock (3) can still just be moved and centers itself.
Close tailgate, check gap dimensions and checking closing comfort.
Striker (2) must be centrally positioned in tailgate lock (3), repeat process if necessary.
Open tailgate.
Adjust tailgate lock (2) vertically so that upper edges of washers are flush with edge of tailgate lock (2).
Tighten down screws (1).
Tightening torque 51 24 1AZ .
After adjustment: grease tailgate lock (3).
Unscrew stop buffer (1) by dimension (X).
Dimension (X) = 38 mm
Close rear lid.
Check alignment and closing function of tailgate and tailgate lock; readjust stop buffer (1) if necessary.
Twist stop pad (1) max. ±1 turn.
Checking adjustment:
- Insert a strip of paper (normal writing paper) between stop pad (1) and limit position on body
- Close the tailgate and make sure that the paper strip remains between stop pad (1) and limit position
- Stop pad (1) is correctly adjusted when the paper strip can be pulled out with "slight" resistance
Apply setting:
- Adjust stop buffer (1) to dimension (X).
Dimension (X) = 8 mm
- Close tailgate and check whether paper strip can be pulled out with a degree of resistance; if necessary readjust stop buffer (3).
- Twist stop buffer (1) max. ±1 turn.
