The following operations describe the way in which the output shaft is pressed out of the drive flange:
The following tools are required to press out the output shaft from the drive flange, see Fig 2 for arrangement:
Necessary components:
| 1 | Hydraulic unit |
| E3 | Washer M24 |
| F3 | Spindle M24 (length 270 mm) |
| B2 | Adapter |
| K2 | Screws M14 x 1.5 |
Press swivel bearing (1) outwards and remove output shaft (2) from wheel bearing.
Detach brake hose from holder.
Support swivel bearing with workshop jack.
Slacken nut (2).
Tightening torque: 100 Nm
Pull out screw (1) towards rear and remove swivel bearing.
Installation note:
Keep swivel bearing to spring strut connection clean and free from oil and grease.
Note insertion direction of screw.
Replace self-locking nuts.
Replacement:
- Modify WHEEL BEARING
- Modify BRAKE SUPPORT/GUARD PLATE
The following work steps describe drawing in the output shaft:
The following tools are required to press out the output shaft from the drive flange, see Fig 6 for arrangement:
Necessary components:
| 1 | Hydraulic unit |
| E3 | Holding sleeve M24 |
| D1 | Washer |
| F2 | Spindle M24 / M20 (length 335 mm) |
| G4 | Adapter M22 x 1.5 to M20 |
Risk of damage!
The G4 special tool sleeve used has relatively thin walls due to its technical requirements. So that the load limits of the clamping sleeve are not exceeded when pulling in the output shaft, the adapter 81 64 2 318 661 must be used together with a torque wrench.
Fit adapter with torque wrench to hydraulic unit (see illustration).
Set torque wrench to 20 Nm.
Draw in output shaft with hydraulic tool until the torque wrench is activated.
Apply a light coating of oil to contact surface of collar nut / wheel bearing, and apply tightening force.
- No oil permitted on thread of shaft journal or collar nut.
Tighten new collar nut (1).
- For this purpose, press the brake pedal.
Tightening torque: 182 Nm
Secure collar nut on flattened area (2) of drive shaft by positive caulking.
Installation note:
Replace collar nut (1).
After Installation note:
- Replacement only: Perform wheel/chassis alignment.
See ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH LOAD UP TO DESIGN POSITION or ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE-HEIGHT MEASUREMENT WITHOUT LOAD .
