64 11 200 Removing and installing/replacing heater

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Draw off refrigerant from A/C system
Remove carrier for instrument panel . See 51 45 075 REMOVING AND INSTALLING CARRIER FOR INSTRUMENT PANEL .
Remove intake filter housing . See 13 71 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (N12) .

Unlock and detach coolant lines (1).

Carefully blow through double pipe to remove remaining coolant from heater core.

Slacken nut (2).

Disconnect refrigerant lines (3).

Installation:

Tightening torque 64 11 4AZ .

Ensure gasket (4) is correctly seated.

Replace all sealing rings and moisten with suitable refrigerant oil prior to fitting.

Vent cooling system and check for leaks. See 17 00 039 VENTING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS .

Remove holder (1).

Remove heater (1) with a 2nd person helping.

Installation:

Heater is held by carrier for instrument panel.

When installing carrier for instrument panel, make sure heater is in correct position.

IMPORTANT: Risk of water damage in the passenger compartment!

Installation:

Before mounting the heater (2), spray condensate drain (1) with lubricant G13 (sourcing reference from BMW Parts Department). Make sure heater (2) is correctly seated on condensate drain (1). Perform a visual inspection after installing the heater (2).
