33 55 000 Removing and installing/replacing rear stabilizer bar

Failure to comply with the following instructions may result in the vehicle slipping off the lifting platform and critically injuring other persons.
Read and observe the information on load distribution in the Owner's Handbook, lifting platform.
Before lowering/removing the rear axle support, it is essential to place a minimum load of 100 kg in the luggage compartment to prevent the vehicle from toppling/slipping off the lifting platform!

When supporting components, make sure that

Necessary preliminary tasks 

NOTE: Axle/wheel alignment is not necessary after the stabilizer bar has been removed and installed/replaced!

Release nut (1) on left and right; if necessary, grip hexagon socket (2) or dihedron.

Installation: 

Replace self-locking nut.

Tightening torque 33 55 1AZ .

Disengage exhaust rubber at rear.

Release screws (1) and nuts (2).

Remove heat shield (3) in rear area from body.

NOTE: Brake line is located on right side of floor plate in front of tank.

Remove brake line (1) from holders (2).

Installation: 

Replace damaged holders.

Make sure brake line is correctly seated in holders.

Support rear axle support with special tools 31 5 250, 31 5 252 and 31 5 253.

Release screws (1, 2) on left and right.

Installation: 

Replace Microencapsulated screws.

Make sure screws are installed in correct positions.

Tightening torque 33 31 1AZ .

Lower front axle support by max. A = 40 mm.

Release left and right screws (1).

Remove retaining bar and rubber mount on left and right.

Turn stabilizer bar and feed out sideways.

Installation: 

Keep rubber mount and stabilizer clean and free from oil and grease.

Tightening torque 33 55 3AZ .
