64 11 200 Removing and installing/replacing heater

Special tools required:  00 9 030

WARNING: Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.
Follow safety instructions for HANDLING REFRIGERANT R 134A .
Follow safety instructions for HANDLING REFRIGERANT OIL. 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Unlock and detach coolant lines (1).

Carefully blow through double pipe to remove remaining coolant from heater core.

Slacken nut (2).

Tightening torque 64 11 4AZ

Disconnect refrigerant lines (3).

Installation note: 

Replace sealing rings.

Use special tool 00 9 030 to install sealing rings without damaging them.

Ensure gasket (4) is correctly seated.

Vent cooling system and check for watertightness. See VENTING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS .

Remove holder (1).

Remove heater (1) with a 2nd person helping.

Installation note: 

Heater is held by support for dashboard.

When installing support for dashboard, make sure heater is in correct position.

IMPORTANT: Risk of water damage in the passenger compartment!

Installation note: 

Before mounting the heater (2), spray condensate drain (1) with lubricant G13 (available from BMW Parts Department).

Make sure heater (2) is correctly seated on condensate drain (1).

Perform a visual inspection after installing the heater (2).
