41 11 043 Replacing front section of left engine support
Refer to relevant service information in BODY, GENERAL .
Remove or cover those vehicle components in the repair area which are susceptible to heat or dust.
Use only approved SPOT-WELDING APPARATUS for repairs.
Strip down vehicle. See STRIPPING OPERATIONS .
Place vehicle on straightening bench.
The following new body parts are required:
- Engine support, front (1)
- Mounting, impact absorber (2)
Removal of engine support front section:
Open weld joints in areas (1).
Roughly cut engine carrier along line (2) and remove metal plate.
Installation note:
New part is bonded in area (3).
Open weld joints in area (1).
Installation note:
New part is bonded in area (1). Apply adhesive in area (1) on both sides.
Open welded connections in areas (1) and (2).
Installation note:
New part is bonded in area (2).
Open welded connections in areas (1).
Remove engine support.
New part preparation:
Structure bonding: see GENERAL NOTES REGARDING BONDING , BONDING STEEL ON STEEL , and NOTES ON ADHESIVE K1 .
Sand off primer from new part and body in area of bonding surfaces. Apply adhesive to bare metal.
Installation of engine support front section:
Clean all bonding surfaces on vehicle and on new part with cleaning agent R1.
Apply adhesive to bonding surfaces.
Adjust new parts to fit with alignment bracket or universal mounting.
When joining engine support, make sure there is sufficient adhesive on bonding surfaces.
Bond new part in area (3).
Weld new part in the areas (1).
Bond new part in area (2).
Weld new part in the areas (1).
Additionally weld new impact absorber fixture (1) in the same way as in series standard.
Weld new part in the areas (1).
- Mount with a pin matching diameter of threaded bush.
- Cutting of thread with a new self-tapping screw matching threaded bush.
