26 11 000 Removing and installing complete propeller shaft

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Unfasten screws.

NOTE: To facilitate release of propeller shaft screw connection, manually unlock transmission lock. Refer to AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION .

Installation: 

Replace self-locking nuts.

IMPORTANT: All except N62 /M67:
The screw without washer may only be tightened by means of the nut.
The screw with rolled-on washer which has ribbed teeth facing the support side must be tightened by means of the screw.
Observe different tightening torques.
Tightening torque: Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Unscrew nuts.

Installation: 

Tightening torque: Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

With a screwdriver, press constant-velocity joint (at the disassembly grooves) off input flange.

IMPORTANT: Do not let propeller shaft fall into joints. Joint and rubber sleeve on constant-velocity joint may be damaged.

Brace propeller shaft on center mount and loosen nuts.

Installation: 

Tightening torque: 21 Nm.

Bend propeller shaft downwards on center bearing.

Remove propeller shaft from transmission output flange and remove constant-velocity joint from final drive.

NOTE: Protect constant-velocity joint from dirt with transport cap.
