17 11 000 Removing and installing radiator (M62)

WARNING: Danger of scalding!
Only perform this work after engine has cooled down.

Drain coolant,

refer to 17 00 005 DRAINING AND TOPPING UP COOLANT .

Remove fan cowl,

refer to 17 11 031 REPLACING FAN COWL (M52, M62) .

NOTE: When removing the fan cowl, note the engine variant.

Open drain plug.

Drain off and catch coolant.

Recycling

Dispose of drained coolant.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

If necessary, disconnect plug connection at level sensor.

Air conditioning

Disconnect plug connection on temperature switch.

Remove upper coolant hose.

Coolant hoses with quick-release couplings

Lift out spring (1).

Disconnect water hose (2).

Release left and right screws (3) on radiator.

Remove both brackets (4).

Installation

Follow instructions for working on cooling system, refer to 17 00... INSTRUCTIONS FOR WORKING ON COOLING SYSTEM

Remove lower coolant hose.

Coolant hoses with quick-release couplings

Remove connector (1).

Lift out spring (2).

Disconnect water hose (3).

Installation

Lift radiator upwards to remove.

Installation

Place radiator on supports.

Coolant hoses with quick-release couplings

Lift radiator (1) up and out.

Installation

Place radiator on supports.

Top up coolant,

refer to 17 00 005 DRAINING AND TOPPING UP COOLANT .

Vent cooling system and check for leaks,

refer to 17 00 039 BLEEDING COOLING SYSTEM AND CHECKING FOR WATER LEAKS .
