11 33 020 Removing and installing or replacing rocker arm shaft

Disconnect battery. Refer to 12 00 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .

Remove cylinder head cover. Refer to 11 12 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/SEALING CYLINDER HEAD COVER (W10) .

Remove screws from rocker arm shaft or camshaft bearing cap in sequence (10-1).

Installation:

Tighten down screws from rocker arm shaft or camshaft bearing cap in sequence (1-10).

Step 1: Tighten uniformly hand-tight.

Step 2: Tightening torque, refer to 11 33 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES- COOPER (1.6L) R50/W10 .

CAUTION: To avoid damaging the rocker arm shafts, it is necessary to release the screws from the rocker arm shaft or camshaft bearing cap in sequence and by one turn in each case.

Remove exhaust rocker arm shaft (1) and inlet rocker arm shaft (2).

Detach rocker arm spacer.

Remove rocker arm from shaft.

NOTE: Lubricate rolling area or rocker arm and shaft with clean engine oil. Hydraulic valve tappets are replaced together with rocker arms. When tightening the rocker arm/camshaft bearing cap screws, make sure the bearing caps are correctly seated and the rocker arms are in the correct installation position.

CAUTION: The inlet and exhaust rocker arm shafts are not interchangeable.
