11 12 729 Checking cylinder head for water leaks (W10 /W11)

Special Tools Required:
- 11 8 431
- 11 8 432
- 11 8 433
Necessary Preliminary Tasks:
- Remove cylinder head. Refer to 11 12 100 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/SEALING CYLINDER HEAD W10 .
- Remove camshaft. Refer to 11 31 001 REPLACING CAMSHAFT .
- Remove thermostat. Refer to 11 53 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING COOLANT THERMOSTAT (W10) .
Place special tools 11 8 431 on sealing surface of cylinder head.
Secure special tools 11 8 431 with special tool 11 8 433.
NOTE:
Clean sealing surfaces.
Close off coolant opening with special tool 11 8 432.
Connect compressed air supply to special tool 11 8 432.
Test pressure: 4.5 bar.
Immerse cylinder head in a water bath.
Check cylinder head for escaping air (cracks).
NOTE:
If necessary, soften the bath water with a cleaning agent.
Assemble engine.
